Letter from the President

Despite Mother Nature’s continuous assault on NorthernNJ, many APICS NONJ members braved the weather to enjoy an informative evening with Allan Robison, CPIM, President & CEO of EXEControl Global Solutions. He spoke about the importance of data accuracy. He addressed questions like why is data accuracy necessary in ERP systems, why is inaccurate data accepted, what levels of accuracy are needed (according to APICS) and can one take data accuracy too far? Allan also provided 6 important prerequisites to improve data accuracy. The Chapter also welcomed some new attendees and a good networking session was had by all. For those of you who couldn’t come, please join us October 13th at The Holiday Inn on Rt. 46 West in Totowa for another informative Professional Development Meeting.

Other upcoming events include The APICS International Conference October 23-25 in Pittsburgh. I will be attending as well as other NONJ members. Joining me will be two of the RutgersUniversitystudents who placed 2nd with their team in this past May’s student case competition atQuinnipiacUniversity. The Chapter has chosen to sponsor them as a result of their hard work and excellent showing at the competition. I know hotels are filling up inPittsburgh so book your reservation soon as it is just over a month away!

I, along with a couple other NONJ Board members, will also be attending The NJ Biz Expo on Thursday, September 22 at The Birchwood Manor 111 North Jefferson Road, Whippany, New Jersey 07981. The Chapter has attended this event annually for several years. We will have our APICS NONJ table set up so come out and see us along with many other businesses and vendors. Another great networking opportunity.

So as you settle back into your post-summer schedules, please make APICS a part of your continuous self-improvement plan, be it a PDM, certification class, networking of perhaps volunteering. I look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Taming The Dragon ©

Harnessing The Potential Of Your Operation

I always visualize the operations of a company as a dragon that needs to be tamed.  Not just any ordinary dragon but a money eating, people burning, customer crushing beast and the goal is to pull its teeth, quench its fire, de-claw it, put a saddle on it and ride it.

It doesn’t matter if your operation consists of one person or an entire corporation, or if you are a service organization, provide distribution or manufacture a product, you need to perform faster, smarter, with more coordination and better communication.  In today’s economic climate where cash is short, people overworked and the future uncertain, it is often difficult to figure out where to begin.

This presentation will give you an overview on how to start and the programs necessary to tame your operation and harness its potential.   You will be introduced to “Direction Oriented Management” and the overriding principle of “Make It Easy”.

It is time to unsheathe your sword and enter the lair of the beast.
